Discover the Riviera dei Fiori and authentic flavors of Western Liguria

Albenga

A thousand-year-old city between history and nature

In the heart of the Riviera dei Fiori, where Roman history meets medieval beauty.

Roman and Medieval Albenga

THE CITY

Roman and Medieval Albenga

Albenga is one of Liguria's most ancient cities, founded as a Roman colony in the 2nd century B.C. The historic centre still preserves today the Roman street plan with its characteristic urban grid, medieval towers from the 12th-15th centuries, and the splendid Cathedral of San Michele, a masterpiece of Ligurian Romanesque style. Walking through the cobbled alleyways, you will encounter fascinating buildings, testaments to a history rich in Mediterranean trade and maritime heritage. The city is also famous for its agricultural products: the renowned flowers of the Riviera, the strawberries of Albenga, and the DOP olive oils that characterize the local gastronomy.
